Constitutional crisis? The economy, not the rule of law, might be Trump’s biggest deterrent

Since Donald Trump re-took the White House, he’s been emboldened and defiant. And he wants to reshape the federal government in his own slimy image but federal judges have issued multiple preliminary decisions and injunctions impeding various administration efforts. As a result, the Trump administration and federal judges are engaged in a heated conflict over executive actions, with both sides accusing the other of causing a constitutional crisis.

Are we in a constitutional crisis? It’s being discussed multiple times by the mainstream media. But we’re not there yet. And maybe, just maybe, the concern about such as situation is a little premature.

Earlier this week when a reporter asked Trump if he would abide by judges’ rulings, he responded: “… I always abide by the courts, always abide by them. And we’ll appeal,” Trump added. “But appeals take a long time.”

Good answer.

At least he’s giving us an indication he understands right from wrong as it relates to presidential powers versus the judicial branch. And at least he didn’t say something like, “We’ll see about that.”

For now, Trump seems to get it! But if there’s ANY president who would cause such a scenario it would be Trump.

What might be keeping Trump in check

A constitutional crisis in the United States could have significant negative impacts on the economy, causing an erosion of investor confidence. Political instability and challenges to the rule of law could deter both domestic and foreign investment. The erratic decisions that would lead to the constitutional crisis are likely to create uncertainty in financial markets, potentially leading to decreased investment and economic growth.

And if there’s one thing Trump doesn’t want to do it’s crash the economy. Should the economy tumble following such a crisis, there would be no way for him to blame Democrats as the implications of his actions would be far too obvious.

If Trump has considered disobeying judges, surely someone has told him about the possible economic ramifications.
